UK Government Solar Panel Grants and Incentives

All you need to know and how to benefit from these generous schemes

UK government solar panels grants have been scrapped by new, more attractive schemes that can ensure that you:

Make big savings on your energy bills

Earn guaranteed tax-free cash by selling your energy into the grid

They have also made it possible for domestic homeowners in the UK to secure free solar panels from private sector companies. Currently though, it is far better to buy your own solar pv system and keep the profits that it generates for youself.

New schemes are more attractive than the previous solar panel grants

In scrapping the previous solar panel grants (UK) in April 2010, the government replaced them with two far more generous and attractive schemes.

The Feed-in-Tariffs (FITs)

Since April 2010, this lucrative government incentive guarantees you payment for the next 25 years of 41.3p per Kwh of energy that your solar pv panels produce and feed back into the national grid. Essentially, you are using your solar panels to create energy and sell it, and these payments are tax-free and index-linked, meaning they will adjust according to inflation.

So, not only does this mean that ever-rising energy bills will be slashed, but also you will receive a tax-free income for selling energy. It’s a very attractive offer, and far better than the old government grants for solar panels.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The governments Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme/grants for solar heating will pay 8.5p per KW produced – that is tax-free cash guaranteed for the next 20 years.

These two schemes that have replaced entirely the government grants for solar energy in the UK are a really exciting development that will benefit both the environment and British consumers’ finances.

So how can you benefit from these schemes?

  • Slash your energy bills
  • Make generous tax-free profits
  • Reduce your dependence on ever increasing oil and gas prices

These new deals are far better than the previous solar power grants. Thanks to these generous government schemes you can now either:

Buy your own solar pv panels and make generous tax-free cash profits for the next 25 years, as well as save money on your energy bills.

Or

Get free solar panels from private sector commercial companies and cut your energy bills sizeably.

However, by choosing the free solar power deals you are effectively giving away the profits. If you can afford it, buying your own solar panels is a far better option.

Act now to ensure you do not miss out on the deal

The Feed-in-Tariff has some extremely attractive financial incentives – and that is one of the reasons why it is currently under review by the UK government.

Many predictions from those in the energy industry expect that the feed-in-tariffs are likely to be slashed significantly for households that install systems after April 1st, 2012. Indeed, these schemes are very generous and it is logical to assume that these incentives will not available at such a high amount for long.

If you sign-up now, you’re guaranteed to benefit from the scheme for the next 25 years, as the government have already confirmed that there will not be any retrospective changes, i.e. they won’t break their promises if you sign up to the deal now.

Beware of the cowboy solar panel installers – only use MCS accredited companies

Some solar panel installation companies are claiming that you can make a 10% return on your investment – this is misleading as they are not factoring in the costs of buying and installing the solar panels. Avoid the cowboys by using our solar power information and quotes service. All of the installers on our database are trusted, MCS certified. Use the post-code look up to get started.
