Some of the benefits of Solar
Installing solar panels on the roof of your home currently generates an income for the electricity you produce, from a government-backed scheme. All payments are guaranteed for 25 years, are linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) and are tax-free.
✔ REDUCE YOUR ENERGY BILLS
Solar Panels produce around 50% of the electricity your home needs.
✔ GENERATE AN INCOME
Get paid upto 21p per unit of electricity - 21p/kWh means a 4kW system on a south facing roof currently offers a 10% rate of return - that is until 31st March when FIT rates could reduce further, and home energy rating of level C or above may be introduced.
✔ SELL ELECTRICITY BACK TO THE GRID
Automatically receive money for the excess electricity your solar PV panels produce.
✔ GUARANTEED PAYMENTS
25 Years of index linked government backed payments.
✔ INCREASE THE VALUE OF YOUR PROPERTY
Solar panels are an attractive selling point for your property.
✔ CUT YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Save over 30 tonnes of CO2 over a systems lifetime.
Introducing Solar Power - Do you know the twelve basic facts about Solar Power for UK Homes?
1. Solar panels (known as photovoltaic (PV) panels) can be fitted on your home to generate the same type of electricity used in your home to power your TV, toaster and everything else.
2. PV panels turn light into electricity (and not heat) so solar juice will start filling up your home from the moment you wake up in the morning until the sun goes down.
3. Modern panels now give a lot of juice! They can supply 100% of your total electricity demand (on an averaged annual basis) and much more if you make your home more energy efficient (with 'A-rated' appliances, low energy lights, etc)
4. The PV panels are connected to the grid so your solar juice is either used up when you use it or it goes out to someone else's home - not a single drop is wasted. If you need a top up you can use electricity from the grid (just as you have always done before).
5. Like Germany (who have a similar climate and now have 500,000 PV roofs) the UK now has a Feed-in Tariff which guarantees a fixed prices for ALL the juice you produce for 25 years.
6. Solar panels involve a high initial investment (from £5k to £20k) but also generate high returns now that the UK has switched the Feed-in Tariff.
7. The Feed-in Tariff is set at 43.3p kW/h (which is nearly 4 times what UK homes currently pay for their electricity) and this tariff is linked to inflation and tax free for 25 years.
8. MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited installers have to be used in order to claim for Feed-in Tariff.
9. In the UK the best arrangement is south facing panels inclined at an angle of 35 degrees and shadow free.
10. Solar panels have no moving parts and their performance is normally guaranteed by manufacturers for 25 years which means zero maintenance, zero noise, zero hassle and they could keep generating juice for as long as 40-50 years.
11. Solar Panels become carbon neutral in 2-5 years which can mean over 35 years of clean green electricity. By installing solar panels you will meet your personal contribution to the UK's Kyoto agreement in carbon emission reduction.
12. Solar PV panels are not the only type - there are also 'solar thermal panels' which generate hot water for showers etc and reduce your heating bills. However, we prefer PV panels as they not only allow you to claim 43.3p/kWh for ALL the electricity produced but they reduce your electric bills and generate a bonus income for anything you export to the grid.
